nyc: day three

We started the day off in Grand Central Station and Times Square on our way to Central Park.

Central Park is the most beautiful part of New York. Thanks to a tip, we found Good to Go Organic Food, which sells vegan hot dogs. You can even add veggie chili.

They are Smart Dogs, which isn't my favorite brand. I mean, it was nice to be able to have a hot dog in Central Park, but I would have preferred a Tofurkey dog. Also, am I the only one who thinks it's cruel to have horses on New York City streets? There's just something wrong about it.

We decided to walk about half of the park. It was such a beautiful day and the park was so alive. We saw a couple get engaged. They were both crying. It was adorable!

We headed by Washington Square Park to see the mini Arc de Triomphe.

Then, we met up with Wade and Kim. I went to high school with them and they both live in the city now. It was so fun to catch up with them. It was like time had passed, but it hadn't.

I had the most delicious cup of hot chocolate at CocoaV. It has seriously ruined all other hot chocolate for me. It was so rich and thick.

I ordered the nut cheese plate, which was good, but nothing compared to Pure Food and Wine's nut cheese.

Jason ordered a brownie sundae, which was amazing. I took several bites, and it put Lula's to shame! It was rich and had dark chocolate chunks in it. CocoaV cannot be missed!

So, I forgot to take a photo of all three of us, so Wade and I took a photo together and left a spot for Kim to Photoshop herself in. :)

For dinner, we went uptown to Candle 79.

We started off with the Guacamole Timbale. The flavors were wonderful and I loved the crunchy chips, but the black beans were cold. I can understand the guacamole part being cold, but I wanted the black bean part to be warm.
Jason ordered the Chili-Grilled Seitan. While I'm not a huge fan of the texture of seitan, this entree had a wonderful grilled and smokey flavor.
I chose the Wild Mushroom-Squash Risotto, which was perfect! The autumn flavors and warmth were perfect after a cooler and wet night in the city.
Jason and I used to love ordering cannolis from a local Italian restaurant when we weren't vegan. However, these cannolis were even better than the "real" thing. They were perfectly flaky and the filling was so smooth and creamy. The pumpkin ice cream on top was subtle and delicious.

Overall, Jason enjoyed Candle 79 more, while I preferred Pure Food and Wine. It's a toss up. I'm sad we couldn't visit all of the vegan restaurants, but it's a perfect reason to return.
